Sunburn is a condition of the skin when it becomes red and painful due to too much exposure to UV lights from sunshine. Home remedies can be used to relieve sunburn skin, but sunburn may take days to fade. Strong, repeated sun exposure increases other skin problems like sun damage, dark spots, and wrinkles. It also increases the risk of skin cancer. 

You can prevent sunburn by protecting your skin. You should care when you are outdoor even on cloudy days.

Symptoms of sunburn

  • Change in the skin tone, cause redness
  • Skin feels hot on the touch
  • pain and tenderness
  • Swelling of the skin
  • Headache, nausea, fever, fatigue if the sunburn is severe
  • Painful eyes
  • Small fluid-filled blisters can break

Causes of the sunburn

Burning of the skin due to heavy sunshine is sunburn. Melanin is a dark pigment in the skin that is responsible for the color tone of the skin. When you sit for a long time in the sun, your skin protects itself by producing melanin fast.

The production of the extra melanin creates a tan. A suntan is a way of blocking rays from the sun to prevent sunburn. Too much sun rays cause sunburn.

Risk factors

  • Living in sunny areas, warm or high altitude
  • Working outdoors
  • Drinking alcohol outdoors
  • Taking a drug that makes to more likely to burn
  • Swimming or spraying your body with water cause more burning as compared to dry skin
  • Repeated exposure to the UV lights protecting the skin surface
  • Having light skin, red or blue eyes

Repeated exposure to the skin can cause many diseases and skin problems.  These diseases include the most skin cancer and premature aging of the skin.

Skin cancer 

Exposure to the sun causes wrinkles and many serious skin diseases. Skin cancer is one of the most spreading diseases due to UV lights. 80% son sun exposure causes skin cancer before the age of 18. It is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells. These cells divide rapidly and cause skin cancer

Exposure to sun causes the skin wrinkles and age spots. People think glowing of the skin means good health, but skin color in sun increases the process of aging and the risk of developing skin cancer. The UV rays damage the fibers of elastin in the skin. When these fibers lose, the skin loses its elasticity and becomes sag and unable to go back into place. Sun damage skin will not appear when you are young, it will definitely show later. The sun can also cause issues of the eyes, eyelids, and skin around the eyes.

Skin changes for the skin cancer

  • Precancerous and cancerous ( carcinoma basal cells, melanoma, and squamous cells) skin lesions caused due to the loss of the immune function
  • Benign tumors
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Discolored areas of the skin called molted pigmentation and sallowness
  • Yellow discoloration of the skin
  • The dilation of the small blood vessels under the skin
  • Destruction of the elastic tissues causing lines and wrinkles

Symptoms of the skin cancer

The most common warning sign of skin cancer is a change in the color of the skin or lesion in the mole.

  • Carcinoma basal cells first may appear as the small, smooth, waxy bump on the face or neck as a red-brown colored lesion on the arms or legs
  • Squamous cells appear as rough, scaly, flat lesions that may cause itchy, pain, bleed and become crusty.
  • Both these cells appear on the skin areas which are mostly exposed to the sun rays but can also occur anywhere
  • Melanoma appears as a bump or pigmented patch, it resembles the normal mole but has an irregular appearance

There are many other symptoms of the melanoma 

  1. Asymmetry 

The shape of the half does not match the shape of the other half

  • Border

The edges of these cells become blurred or ragged

  • Diameter

A significant change in size, maybe greater than the 6mm appear

  • Color

Shades of the skin may uneven, like brown, black, tan, red, blue, or white

  • Evolution

Change the shape of the mole or lesion or maybe bleed or feel itching
