Glycemic index

« Back to Glossary Index

A scale that ranks foods based on how much they raise blood sugar levels. Foods with a high glycemic index (such as white bread and sugary snacks) can cause spikes in blood sugar. In contrast, foods with a low glycemic index (such as whole grains and vegetables) gradually affect blood sugar levels.
